Fine glass fiber tissue veil used as surface layer
Fine glass fiber tissue veil used as surface layer

Ultra-fine glass fiber mat surface layer for smooth, resin-rich finishes. Essential for gel coat backing, corrosion barriers, and premium surface aesthetics.

Product Overview

Surface Tissue is a thin, non-woven fiberglass mat composed of fine-diameter fibers. It is designed specifically as a surface layer in laminated composites to create a smooth, resin-rich finish that enhances appearance, improves chemical resistance, and protects the structural layers beneath.

In marine applications, surface tissue is used directly behind gel coat to prevent fiber print-through and provide a water-resistant barrier. In chemical storage tanks, C-glass surface tissue forms the first layer of the corrosion barrier, protecting the structural laminate from chemical attack.

For general marine and cosmetic applications, E-glass tissue is sufficient. For chemical storage tanks and acidic environments, C-glass tissue provides a more durable corrosion barrier.

Applications

Gel Coat Backing

Prevents fiber print-through and provides a smooth cosmetic surface.

Corrosion Barriers

First layer in chemical tank linings for acid and chemical resistance.

Boat Hulls

Resin-rich layer behind gel coat to improve osmosis resistance.

Automotive Panels

Class A surface preparation and smooth paint finish.

Sanitary Ware

Bathtubs, showers, and spas requiring glossy, smooth surfaces.

Swimming Pools

Water-resistant liner surface and cosmetic finish.

Quality Assurance

Surface tissue must be uniform and free of defects that could telegraph through gel coat. Our quality checks include:

  • Weight per area verification
  • Fiber distribution and binder uniformity
  • Moisture content testing
  • Wet-out evaluation with standard resins
  • COA with each shipment
